The following is a very, very, very, very brief account of the Middle Ages and Renaissance.
The Middle Ages (c.476-1450) was a period which saw the growth of Christianity, feudalism, chivalry, courtly love,
and the shape of Western civilization known today. War, as in all history, made its mark. For example, the Crusades,
the Hundred Years’ War, Agincourt, and the mortality war against the Black Death. Thus, a time of great progress and change!
The Renaissance (1450-1600) saw the growth of humanism, intellectual apprehension and the rebirth of literature and art.
A secular orientation began to replace the religious ideals of the afterlife with ideals of life here on earth. Even still,
the Church was a dominant force, along with the monarchy, in the political scene in Europe and England.
This part of my website provides links to more of the history and music of these two periods as well as links to other musical sources.
