Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Theodore (Ted) Jander. I am happily married to Connie, the most beautiful, fun and supportive woman in the world. We have two beautiful children, Ellie and Evan.
I have been composing and arranging for a little over twelve years. The majority of my musical output has been sacred choral music. However, over the past few years I have been focusing more on writing for other instruments, particularly the piano. I also dabble in the world of electronic/mixed music. While completing my Bachelors in Music Education at the University of MO-St. Louis, I studied composition with Dr. Claude Baker, Professor of Music and Composition Department Chair at Indiana University and former Composer-in-Residence with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. I was selected to study counterpoint and composition at the European American Musical Alliance program in Paris, France, during the month of July 2005. My teachers included Dr. Philip Lasser, counterpoint; Michel Merlet and Narcis Bonet, composition. In May 2006, I completed my Master of Arts degree with an emphasis in Choral Studies and Composition at Webster University. My composition teachers at Webster included Professor Kim Portnoy and Professor Robert Chamberlin, with whom I continue to study.
I have taught beginning piano, music appreciation, music theory and directed choral ensembles at the middle school and high school levels. I joined the Greenleaf Singers (a St. Louis-based Early Music Vocal Ensemble) for its 26th season in August of 2001. For the 28th season, I took on the role as Greenleaf’s Artistic Director, a position I continue to enjoy. I am also the Adult Choir Director at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Hazelwood. On January 1, 2011, I began my Composer-in-Residence post with two St. Louis area churches as part of the Lutheran Church Composer-in-Residence Program which I recently established. I also enjoy spending time with my wife and two children.
I also have a great interest in music history, specifically the Middle Ages through the Renaissance. Links are provided to many of my favorite Medieval, Renaissance and music sites. Be sure to check out the links page. You can also find me on the following websites: American Composers Forum, American Music Center Artists Directory, Society of Composers, Inc., ThatNewMusicWebsite.com and ACIDplanet.
